FAQ's

What is CSA?

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. CSA program participants register with the farm of their choice in the spring to receive a “share” of the farm’s produce each week of the growing season. Payment is usually made at the start of the season, which allows the farm to pay for the up-front costs of producing food that are generally more expensive closer to the growing season.

By participating in our CSA, you make a financial commitment to support Heaven’s Dew Farm in exchange for a box of produce grown on our small-scale, regenerative farm in Unionville, NC.

Joining the Heaven’s Dew Farm CSA is a great way to support local agriculture, get to know the people who grow your food, and receive a weekly box of delicious, high-quality vegetables and herbs.

Our CSA Share boxes will be packed with quality produce and herbs, hand-selected with care. Your box will be accompanied by a weekly newsletter with recipe ideas and regular updates from the farm!

Is CSA right for me?

Is a relationship with the farmer that grows your food important to you?

Do you value supporting local agriculture?

Do you value having high-quality, locally grown food?

Do you like the idea of eating seasonally (i.e., eating what naturally grows in season where you are located)?

Are you inclined to try new foods?

Are you okay being flexible with your meal planning?

The above questions outline the essential components of a CSA. If you answered yes to all or most of these questions, CSA is likely a good option for you. If not, participating in our CSA program is just one option to get fresh, local produce from our farm.

If you're someone who values knowing where your food comes from and cultivating a relationship with your farmer, supporting local agriculture, and eating seasonally, a CSA program is a great opportunity for you. If CSA is not for you, that is okay too. Instead, visit us at the farmer's market to purchase fresh produce from our farm. We offer both, so you can find what works for you.

What is the difference between the full and halfshare?

Full shares were designed to feed a household of 3-4 people and half shares were designed to feed 1-2 people depending on diet, appetite, and cooking preference. The half share receives smaller quantities each week, but we try our best to maintain the diversity of vegetables in both the full and half shares.

How will I know of any changes of updates?

We will communicate with you by email. When you sign up, you will be added to our distribution list, which we will use to communicate important information about our CSA and other farm news. We will email newsletters consistently throughout the subscription giving you information about the crops available, recipe ideas, photos (when available), and other farm-related news.

How do I pick up my share?

Arrive at your set pick-up location during the designated times and one of us will have your share set out on a table. Please remember to bring your own bag to transfer your share from our bins to your bag. We have a limited supply of reusable bins and by not using expensive packaging, we can keep our prices low and reduce the waste produced from our farm.

What if I am unable to pick up my share one week?

If you are unable to pick up your share, please give us as much advanced notice as possible—ideally, at least 24 hours. You then have the following options:

1.         You may have someone else pick up your share. Please let us know who will be coming in your place so we can make sure we give your share to the correct person. It is your responsibility to provide the alternate pick-up person with pick up time and location information.

2.         We may be able to prepare your share for another day, but this will be on a case-by-case basis depending on the produce. We can do this on occasion but prefer not to make it a habit.

3.         You may pick up a "double share" the preceding or following week; however, members often find that they cannot use all of the vegetables.

What if I need to cancel my share?

Once the season begins, there will be no refunds given unless you have a life-changing event (employment relocation, loss of employment, etc.) in which the refund will be prorated. If cancelled in advance of the season, you will be refunded minus the $50 non-refundable deposit.
